If you are like me you love Kaffe Fassett’s line of fabric, but you might agree that it does not always fit with many traditional quilt patterns, especially if the pieces are small and you are using his big bold prints. Fortunately he offers many ideas in the numerous books he has published. I fell in love with Kaffe’s Bordered Diamonds Quilt; however, was a little hesitant considering all the bias cuts and the paper template Kaffe provides.
In my unrelenting desire to make this quilt I searched the quilt store notion shelves and found a diamond ruler that, to my mind, saved the day. The diamond ruler not only made cutting or fussy cutting the diamonds easier, but it also made trimming the border strips a cinch and resulted in improved accuracy. Armed with the diamond ruler and a large can of starch this quilt was much less intimidating.
I will be teaching Kaffe Fassett’s Bordered Diamonds this Fall 2012 at the Running Stitch in Kanata. For more information please check out my schedule or go to http://therunningstitch.ca for more information.
Canadian Quilters Association – Quilt Show
I attended the Canadian Quilter’s Association (CQA) National Juried Show (NJS) held in Halifax at Quilt Canada at the end of May this year. The quilts, as always, were amazing. You can check out the winners on the CQA website at http://www.canadianquilter.com/photo-gallery/national-jury-show-2012.php. However, the thumbnail pictures on the website are just a torment compared to getting your nose 6 inches from the real quilt. Of course if you are a member of the CQA you will receive the NJS catalogue with photos of all the entrants’ quilts in your Fall issues of the Canadian Quilter.
It was a thrill for me to have my quilt ‘My Kinda Town’ juried into the show. I also had my quilt ‘Night Sail’ in the Invitational Show at the same venue. You can see both of these quilts in my Quilt Gallery .
